I just baked some Peach Cobbler and of course it needed some vanilla ice cream to balance out all the goodness.
The history of Peach Cobbler: It dates back to the early days of American settlement. It is believed that the European settlers adapted their traditional fruit-based desserts to incorporate the fruits they found in the New World, including peaches. The dish evolved from the English and European fruit pies and cobblers but with the addition of the Native American fruits like peaches. There are certainly lots of variations of Peach Cobbler depending on local preferences.
Georgia Peaches: Since I’m a Georgia Peach, I must mention that Georgia is known as the Peach State and has the ideal climate for peach cultivation. Our state has been producing peaches since the 18th century. Georgia peaches are often featured in peach cobbler recipes due to their sweet and aromatic flavor. The combination of Georgia Peaches and a buttery biscuit-like topping with a scoop of vanilla ice cream has become a classic Southern dessert that celebrates the state’s rich agricultural heritage.
How did National Peach Cobbler get started?
I learned that in the 1950’s, The Georgia Peach Council started promoting Peach Cobbler Day in April. Peaches aren’t ripe until the summer, in an effort to promote canned peach sales – This is how the holiday got started.
So many Peach Cobbler recipes are available to try.
Did I mention this is my husband’s favorite dessert! He will be eating it tonight!
