Be My Valentine! Let’s Bake

How about baking a decadent Chocolate Lava Cake for a homemade Valentine’s dessert? A Chocolate Lava Cake is a rich, indulgent and perfect for sharing with your loved one on Valentine’s Day or any day! It’s a classic dessert that has been popular for many years. Variations of this recipe have been shared an enjoyed by home cooks and professional chefs all around the world. It has a rich chocolate flavor and gooey, molten center. Here’s a simple variation of this cake: 

Ingredients:

4 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate

1/2 cup of unsalted butter

cup of powdered sugar

2 eggs

2 egg yolks

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

6 tablespoons of all-purpose flour

Optional: powdered sugar for dusting, fresh berries, and whipped cream for serving

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. 
  2. Grease and flour four ramekins or a small baking dishes. 
  3. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate and butter in 30 second increments, stirring until smooth. Let it cool slightly. 
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla extract until well blended. 
  5. Gradually pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly until smooth. 
  6. Fold in the flour until just combined. Be careful not to over mix. 
  7. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins/dishes. 
  8. Place the ramekins/dishes on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12 – 14 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft. 
  9. Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the dishes for a few minutes. 
  10. Carefully run a knife around the edges of each cake, then invert onto serving plates. 
  11. Dust with powdered sugar, if desired, and serve warm with fresh berries and whipped cream on the side.
